The Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute celebrates in 2025 the tenth edition of the educational project ‘FEnanoMENOS’
- The tenth edition of FEnanoMENOS, the main nanoscience fair aimed at schoolchildren throughout Spain, kicks off with important new features and with the aim of reaching 2,000 secondary schoolchildren from all over the country
- The project, which started in Aragon and for the last four years has been extended to the whole of Spain, is organised by the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA, CSIC-Unizar) with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT)-Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities
Zaragoza, 15 January 2025 – ‘FEnanoMENOS’ is back! And, this year, it does so with the most special event yet. The project, organised by the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA, a joint CSIC-Unizar centre) with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, is 10 years old and has become the main nanoscience fair for schoolchildren in Spain.
The aim of FEnanoMENOS is to promote science and innovation among young people. Therefore, an annual competition is held and students compete with experimental research projects based on the scientific method and the study of a phenomenon related to nanoscience.
Now, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, ‘FEnanoMENOS X’ has arrived with the aim of involving around 2,000 secondary schoolchildren. For the fourth consecutive year, its scope has been extended beyond Aragon, incorporating the participation of schools from other autonomous communities. In addition, this year, two important new features have been included.
The first of these is ‘FEnanomeNOS: the reunion’, a space in which people who have taken part in previous editions, both students and teachers, are invited to tell us how they experienced their projects and how the project has influenced their subsequent professional development. Anyone who was part of the working teams of any of the nine previous editions can participate. Those who are interested can write an email to educacion@esciencia.es indicating the year in which they took part.
In addition, there will be an exhibition: ‘10 years of Fenanomen@s’. The aim is to commemorate the ten editions by means of information panels that will show the history and achievements of what is the main national event of its kind; the overall number of participants, the winning projects of each edition and an exciting timeline that will summarise the most important milestones of our fair.
Registration to participate in FEnanoMENOS X
The fair is aimed at secondary school students and students from special education centres. The registration period is open until 28 February, and the Nanoscience Fair will be held during the month of May in a unique location in the city of Zaragoza. The project provides schools that wish to participate with an advisory and support service for the development of the projects, and this can be requested before 31 January. All the information can be found on the project’s website https://www.fenanomenos.com/.
Over the coming months, other activities will be carried out within the project, such as the ‘FEnanoMENOS Hub’ for educational innovation in nanotechnology, a virtual space for linking people (students and teachers), schools and nanotechnology research institutes in which participants are committed to education and nanoscience, understood as drivers of social change.
On the other hand, the ‘FEnanoHack’ will be organised, a hackathon in the form of a working day in which the different schools of the finalist groups will participate. Also the ‘FEnanoRANKING’, a tool in which the finalists will have to solve four challenges related to nanoscience and its applications. In addition, ‘From FEnanoMENO to FEnanoMENO’ is back, a sponsorship and collaboration programme between the groups in both categories in which they merge to help each other.
