In Department 3, the main research lines comprise theoretical and experimental approaches to the physics of materials and nanosystems. In particular, the following topics are covered: a) quantum systems and devices, of interest in quantum computing and sensing; b) thin films and nanostructures, of interest in spintronics and nanomagnetism, superconductivity, memories and sensors; c) nanoparticles, nanowires, nanotubes and other nano-objects, of application in biomedicine, sensing and catalysis; d) theory of nanophotonic structures, statistical physics, nanotribology and biological molecules, etc.
