Second game Hi Score Science league – come and play
Hi Score Science is a free videogame in Spanish and English, for mobile devices, PC, Mac and Linux that seeks to satisfy the scientific curiosity with which we are all born and which leads us to ask ourselves why things happen.
Hi Score Science is a quiz game that aims to go further than traditional games by involving users in scientific development and including informative explanations of the reality behind each answer.
The project has two modes of participation. The first allows users to take part in the development of the scientific content of the video game. To do so, users can submit their questions which, after review by a scientific committee, will be published in the game. The other mode allows users to demonstrate their scientific knowledge and compete with other users from anywhere in the world.
To encourage participation, several regional and national tournaments have been created with different categories: Senior (over 18 years old), General (Secondary) and Junior (primary) that will reward the winners with trophies, certificates, gifts and scientific visits.
In addition, next Thursday 26 October will see the start of the second game of the V National Absolute Online League, in which any user of any age and education can participate and which will have a monthly online tournament until June. To participate in the league, simply download the Hi Score Science game from the Play Store and Apple Store and on PC, Mac and Linux (www.HiScoreScience.org) and play, with username and password, in multiplayer-online-tournament mode – “Curie”. Users of all ages, backgrounds and locations in Spain can compete online in the tournament.
Each of the league matches has specific prizes, so it is not necessary to have played in the first tournament to participate in the second. The first three finishers will receive a winner’s medal. In addition, the top 10 will receive a certificate and all participants will receive points for the annual league.
The first three finishers of the first match were: Juan Luis Pueyo Sánchez, Henar Anadón and Ángel Madurga Artal.
All the information about the project and the rules of the different tournaments are available on the project’s website www.HiScoreScience.org.
An informative project in constant movement with international recognition.
The Hi Score Science project was born in 2016 in response to the need to adapt outreach activities to the world of young people, belonging to the digital generation, which is currently focused on video games and new technologies. This project has progressed year after year, going from being a regional to a national project and reaching a more disadvantaged audience such as young patients admitted to hospitals, rural inhabitants and adults, a group usually far from outreach activities that allow them to participate actively and not as mere observers.
The project has been awarded first prize in the 18th edition of the Science in Action programme in the “Science Teaching Materials in Interactive Support” category (IBM Award), has received the D+i TOP seal, a national recognition that rewards the best inclusive science outreach projects, has received the runner-up prize for the best outreach project in the 1st CSIC Science Outreach and Citizen Science Awards, and has been selected for presentation at eleven national and international conferences, has been selected for presentation at eleven meetings, conferences and courses such as the Jornadas D+i, the XXXVI Reunión Bienal de la RSEQ, ComCiRed2018, the V Encuentro Nacional De Nanodivulgadores, the I Congreso de ciencia Inclusiva, the VII Congreso de Comunicación Social de la Ciencia and the Congreso de Comunicación Social de la Ciencia CCSC23.
Hi Score Science is a highly rated game among users with a score of 4.5 out of 5, a much higher score than other similar games, and currently has more than 40,000 downloads worldwide, mainly in Spain and Asia. The game has been presented in the different autonomous communities, at videogame, scientific and informative fairs, reaching more than 100,000 people.
