Publication of the book: “Macroscopic Superconducting Phenomena. An interactive guide” – Antonio Badía

The researcher at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón, INMA (CSIC – University of Zaragoza), Antonio Badía Majós, has just published the book “Macroscopic Superconducting Phenomena. An interactive guide”. The book is aimed at students in the final years of Physics and Engineering degrees and postgraduates, and is an ideal tool for researchers who are entering the field of macroscopic superconductivity.

Description

The macroscopic manifestations of superconductivity (zero electrical resistance, expulsion of magnetic fields, Josephson effect) have led to a proliferation of applications in various areas. These include the development of magnetic resonance instruments, levitation systems, coils in particle accelerators, ultra-sensitive detection of magnetic fields, metrology and even supercomputing. This book takes a pedagogical approach to understanding the electromagnetic properties of superconducting materials. Interactive elements are provided to explore topics such as vanishing resistivity, magnetic flux expulsion, critical currents, magnetic invisibility, flux quantization and others. Using a collection of (open source) simulation programs to recreate typical experimental situations, readers are enabled to analyse superconducting phenomena beyond the range achievable by simple analytical models.
