Our colleague Lucía Gutiérrez has been selected as an IEEE Magnetics Society Distinguished Lecturer for the 2027-2028 term. This international distinction recognises leading researchers in the field of magnetism for their scientific contributions and their ability to communicate knowledge to the research community.
Gutiérrez (CSIC) is one of only three individuals selected to join the programme over the next two years, alongside specialists from institutions in France and Japan. Her appointment is a recognition of her scientific achievements and places the research carried out at the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA, CSIC-Unizar) in a highly prestigious international showcase.
The IEEE Magnetics Society is part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), one of the world’s largest professional and scientific organisations in the fields of engineering and technology.
Its Distinguished Lecturers programme aims to bring the most significant advances in magnetism to researchers, students and professionals around the world through lectures delivered by internationally recognised experts.
Lucía Gutiérrez’s selection will enable her to share her expertise and scientific findings with the international community, fostering the exchange of ideas and the dissemination of new research directions.
Magnetic nanoparticles and new perspectives in biomedicine
The lecture that Lucía Gutiérrez will deliver is entitled Beyond Heat: Exploring the Intracellular Response to Magnetic Hyperthermia.
Her presentation will focus on the cellular response to magnetic hyperthermia, a technique that employs magnetic nanoparticles exposed to alternating magnetic fields and is being investigated for its potential in a range of biomedical applications, particularly in oncology.
The lecture will encourage audiences to look beyond heat generation and explore in greater depth how cells respond to these treatments and the mechanisms involved in these processes. This line of research combines nanoscience, magnetism and biomedicine, contributing to the expansion of the knowledge required to develop future therapeutic strategies.
Lucía Gutiérrez’s appointment as a Distinguished Lecturer is a recognition of both her career achievements and the excellence of the research carried out at INMA, a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, where she also plays a leading role in the institute’s Science Outreach Committee.
In addition to providing international visibility for her scientific contributions, this appointment helps strengthen the institute’s presence within major research networks and highlights the work being carried out in Aragón in a field of considerable scientific and technological interest: nanomaterials for healthcare applications.
