Santo Domingo de Silos School, winner of the 7th edition of the regional Hi Score Science competition
Last Friday 1st March, the Museum of Natural Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, MCNUZ, hosted the awards ceremony of the Hi Score Science regional final. The awards ceremony featured a live, face-to-face competition, in which attendees competed with their mobiles to show who was the fastest and wisest in science.
Hi Score Science is an outreach project based on the development of a video game of questions and answers about science that aims to bring science to young people in a fun way. The game is now available for free and without advertising in the Apple Store and Play Store and on PC, Mac and Linux. Hi Score Science is not only a game of questions and answers with several options about science, but, being a project developed between two research institutes, the Instituto de Síntesis Química y Catálisis Homogénea, ISQCH y el Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón, INMA, (CSIC-UNIZAR), it includes informative explanations of the scientific reality that lies behind each of the answers, encouraging users’ curiosity about science.
The project aims to make the users themselves feel part of the project, as they are the generators of the scientific content. To this end, competitions are set up at provincial, regional and national, senior and junior levels.
During the session, prizes were awarded in the content category, i.e. for obtaining the highest score in the questions sent in, both individually and as a group, i.e. for the most active class. In addition, guided visits were made to the Natural Science Museum of the University of Zaragoza.
The winners in the content category were:
Winning school: Colegio Santo Domingo de Silos with the team “la Fernandeta” directed by the teacher Fernando Rived.
First prize: David Aldica
Second prize: Luna Peralta Pérez
Third place: Ian Del Castillo Peláez
In the classroom category, the winner was Mario Hernández García and the runners-up were Estela Alcaya Sances and Beatriz Adiego Montesinos.
All those who want to play with Hi Score Science can download it for free in the Play Store and Apple Store and on PC, Mac and Linux (www.HiScoreScience.org) or play with the arcade machine placed in the evolution corridor of the MCNUZ. All the news of the project developed by the ISQCH and INMA institutes, its game modes and the rules of the different competitions are available at www.HiScoreScience.org.
