The INMA joins the celebration of 11F, international day of women and girls in science with an extensive program of activities
The Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA), a joint institute of the University of Zaragoza and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), in its work of dissemination and promotion of scientific culture in favour of equality participate in the celebration of the International Day of women and girls in science, with the aim of making visible, inspire and promote the participation of women and girls in science.
This initiative arose as an initiative of the United Nations General Assembly decided to proclaim in 2016, in order to achieve access and full and equal participation in science for women and girls, and also to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
As part of this initiative, the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the ISQCH and the INMA are presenting a wide programme of informative activities ranging from exhibitions to round tables in person and via streaming, as well as competitions with video games, talks in bars and even a series of scientific talks aimed at schools and in-person workshops.
Round table 11F-Scientists INMA – oriented adult audience
Ámbito Cultural El Corte Inglés, 9 February at 12:00 noon, P.º de la Independencia, 11, 50001 Zaragoza- Free Admission
What does a scientist do on a daily basis? What and who motivated them to start research? Women and science: is it compatible?
We invite you to attend this round table that will be held on the occasion of 11F – International Day of Women and Girls in Science – in which three researchers from the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon will answer these questions and many more in a pleasant, participatory and informative discussion.
INMA researchers Beatriz Zornoza, María Sancho and Maria Alleva will be present for the debate, and Vanesa Pérez (director and presenter of the programme Conexión Aragón on Aragón televisión) will moderate the discussion.
A thousand rays! Plasma: the “fourth” state of matter. What is it and what can it be used for?
On Monday 5 February, at 7 p.m., in the Ámbito Cultural El Corte Inglés, María Elena Gálvez Parruca, CSIC research scientist at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón, INMA, a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, will give a lecture.
His research career has always been dedicated to the search for solutions for the protection of the environment and for our transition towards a more sustainable energy and production future. Specifically, she has worked and continues to work in fields such as the use of solar energy or renewable electricity to assist different chemical processes.
Elena invites all those attending this conference to travel through the world of ionised matter. Ionised matter is the most abundant state of aggregation in the universe, and yet it is still surrounded by mysteries… In this talk, you will discover its particularities and how it can help to achieve a more sustainable society.
De Copas con Ciencia – Women and Science Special – 29 February
“De Copas con Ciencia” (Drinks with Science) is an activity that aims to take science out of the laboratories and bring it to leisure time in a fun way. On this occasion, we are joining the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, making the role of women in research visible through two female researchers and, in addition, we will have a special tournament with questions about women with our Hi Score Science game.
This activity, which will take place on Thursday 29 February, is organised by the research institutes INMA and ISQCH (Institute of Chemical Synthesis and Homogeneous Catalysis (CSIC-UNIZAR)) and is repeated periodically on the last Thursday of each month at 8 p.m. in El Sótano Mágico (Calle San Pablo 43, Zaragoza).
Exhibition Women Scientists
The Institute of Chemical Synthesis and Homogeneous Catalysis (ISQCH) and the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA), both joint centres of the Spanish National Research Council and the University of Zaragoza, together with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, CASIO Científicas are organising an exhibition on women scientists that can be visited during the months of February and March in building D of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, located at Calle Pedro Cerbuna 12. The inauguration will take place next Thursday 8th February at 12 noon.
Women, science and videogames united in the Hi Score Science competition – science for women
We have created an event aimed at secondary school students and staff of the University of Zaragoza with the video game Hi Score Science, which will allow you not only to learn and demonstrate your knowledge of science, but also to discover the science developed by our female scientists and what is even better, to have your name appear in a video game published with more than 50,000 downloads.
You can participate in two modalities:
Content: By sending us questions about women scientists. Deadline from 1 February to 11 March. In order to participate, questions about women scientists must be sent via the form available on the website www.HiScoreScience.org.
Competition: Competing online in a competition about women scientists. Competition open from 9 February at 8:00 am to 12 February at 2:00 pm. In order to participate in the competition, you must have an internet connection and download the Hi Score Science game from the Play Store https://goo.gl/7pYxus and App Store https://goo.gl/3h6QYO or play through the PC, Mac or Linux versions available on the project’s website www.HiScoreScience.org. To enter the competition, once the application has been downloaded and the game has been opened, you must enter the multiplayer mode > online game type > enter your name and password (essential) and if you wish, you can include additional information > tournament > Rooms.

Talks in schools 11F: Women in Science
INMA researchers will develop outreach talks in schools of primary and secondary education that will take place throughout the month of February. These talks will be given in person at the schools
Workshop for families: Exploring nanoscience through creative printing – Casa de la mujer de Zaragoza.
In this fun workshop we invite you to immerse yourselves in the fascinating world of the small. Through the techniques of carving and stamping, geometric figures inspired by the field of nanoscience will be created. Afterwards, using a series of special inks, these shapes will be printed on paper and other materials.
In the course of the workshop, participants will discover how geometric shapes are connected to fascinating concepts in nanoscience.
The workshop, which is part of the Nanoasalto Evolution project, is organised by INMA, the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon, a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science and Innovation.
The workshop will take place on Friday 23 February from 6 to 7 pm at the Casa de la Mujer de Zaragoza, C. de Don Juan de Aragón, 2, Casco Antiguo, 50001 Zaragoza. More information and registration at: https://www.zaragoza.es/sede/portal/servicios-sociales/mujer/
Other activities
Also, from the INMA, we collaborate in other activities such as the activity “Hello We are Scientists”, organized by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, which will take place on February 9 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, in the talk “Women in Nanomedicine”, talk organized by the nanomedicine connection of the CSIC and will take place on February 9 at the Central Hall of the CSIC, in the “IV campaign I am a scientist. I live in your neighbourhood” organised by the University of Zaragoza, which this year will be exhibited at the entrance of the Labordeta Park in Zaragoza, in the activity “Escaparates 11F”, and also the radio collaborations of our staff in the programme “La buena vida” on the 6th February will focus on women and science.
