The science dissemination project “Nanoasalto Evolution” brings us closer to nanoscience through art
The Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute, INMA, a joint institute of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR), in its work of dissemination and promotion of scientific culture in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, together with Asalto Producciones in the artistic direction and Esciencia Eventos Científicos in the Scientific Consultancy, presents the outreach project “NanoAsalto Evolution”, an exploration of nanoscience through art.
This initiative called NanoAsalto Evolution is directed by the researcher Lucía Gutiérrez Marruedo, CSIC researcher at the INMA and is a small window open to the exploration of the relationship and potential that exists between science and art, involving both artists and researchers at the INMA who have been working together for the last few months to present this different way of approaching nanoscience and a new way of finding meeting points for research with the general public.
The exhibition, which will be presented on 6 May at 18:30h at the Zaragoza School of Art, brings together the work resulting from the collaboration between four artists from different branches of art who have captured the work of four other researchers in the field of nanoscience. Nanoscience research areas such as nanofabrication of materials for neuromorphic devices, ceramics for a sustainable energy future, superconducting radiation sensors and antimicrobial materials based on self-assembled systems, fields of study of Irene Lucas, Rafael Martín and Alodia Orera, Unizar researchers at INMA and Carlos Pobes, CSIC researcher at INMA, have materialised thanks to the artistic expression of plastic and visual artists such as Prado Vielsa, Silvia Cored, Natalia Escudero and Alejandro Azón Ballarín.
In addition, the “NanoAsalto Evolution” project is a continuation of the exploration of new forms of scientific dissemination that began in the first edition of “NanoAsalto” held in 2020 and whose result was the creation of five artistic pieces that join those created in this edition of “NanoAsalto Evolution”, enriching the project and offering new points of view of nanoscience.
Inauguration and itinerancy of the project
The official inauguration of the project will take place on Monday 6 May at 18:30h in the exceptional setting of the Zaragoza School of Art (Avda. María Zambrano 5) and will be attended by authorities from the Regional Ministry of Education, Science and Universities of the Government of Aragon, the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon and the Zaragoza School of Art. The exhibition can be visited in the entrance hall of the School of Art until the 14th of May and guided tours of the exhibition are scheduled for the 9th of May at 11am and the 14th at 6pm.
Subsequently, the project will travel to different scientific and cultural spaces such as the Betancourt Building of the Río Ebro Campus of the University of Zaragoza (from 16 to 24 May), the Faculty of Education of the University of Zaragoza (from 28 May to 18 June) and will end up at CaixaForum Zaragoza on 21 June, where it will be exhibited in the hall of the Auditorium on the occasion of the celebration of the 5th Nanotechnology Gala of Aragon.
The Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA)
In 2020, the ICMA and the INA merged to form a new joint institute called the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials of Institute (INMA). The merger between the two institutes ICMA and INA allows them to optimise their resources, working together, so that INMA reaches new heights and recognition of research excellence.
The aim of INMA is to carry out, within a framework of collaboration, research and technological development activities in the field of Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and Materials Science and Technology and its international projection. To contribute to the progress and increased competitiveness of the productive sector through the national and international dissemination of the knowledge generated and the transfer of its results, improving the living conditions of society. To promote scientific culture by disseminating its activities to society and, in turn, to ensure that the research carried out has repercussions in terms of improving university teaching, and vice versa.
NanoAsalto Evolution is a project carried out with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
