The #MolCal Doctoral Network holds its second face-to-face meeting in Crete
The MolCal (Molecular Calibration) Doctoral Network held its second face-to-face event on the island of Crete, bringing together the ten doctoral students who form part of the network at INMA, along with researchers and supervisory staff.
During the meeting, the doctoral students presented the progress of their research projects, sharing results, methodologies and scientific challenges in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. The programme was rounded off with several specialised training sessions aimed at strengthening key scientific and cross-cutting skills.
In addition to the intense academic work, the event was an excellent opportunity to connect, exchange ideas and strengthen ties between network members, fostering the spirit of collaboration that characterises the project.
MolCal is an international doctoral network funded by the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme, focusing on molecular calibration and the development of advanced tools for scientific research, with an innovative and highly interdisciplinary approach.
The network is committed to training young researchers in an international environment, combining scientific excellence, mobility and cooperation between institutions. MolCal is coordinated by Marco Evangelisti, a CSIC researcher at the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA), a joint institute of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Zaragoza. In addition to the CSIC, the rest of the MolCal consortium is made up of the following partners: University of Crete (Greece), University of Bielefeld (Germany), University of Seville (Spain), University of Paris-Saclay (France), Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR, Italy), University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom), University of Zaragoza (Spain), Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands) and the companies Sunamp Limited (United Kingdom), Quantum Design (USA), Lake Shore Cryotronics (USA) and BSH Electrodomésticos España, S.A (Spain).
The prestigious MSCA Doctoral Networks provide a unique opportunity to organise these international events where participants can connect, strengthen collaborations and share knowledge. There are still two other major international meetings to be held in Scotland and Spain, which will allow students to begin presenting their scientific results and research progress.
With a duration of four years and funding of €2,600,000, the MolCal project is co-funded by the European Union through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), whose main objective is to support the training and professional development of research staff worldwide, within the Horizon Europe Programme (grant agreement 101119865) and by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
