María Moros, INMA researcher, receives the ADEA Award for Innovation
María Moros, CSIC researcher at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón, INMA (a joint centre of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza) has received the Innovation Award from the Asociación de Directivos y Ejecutivos de Aragón, ADEA. The awards ceremony was held during the XI ADEA Executives Convention which, in this edition, was focused on young people and their personal future. The Association of Managers and Executives of Aragon aims, with these awards, to recognise the work of professionals whose tasks and responsibilities are carried out in a company based in Aragon. The shortlists of finalists for this award were selected by voting by the ADEA Board of Directors, after having analysed 198 references of executives who stood out over the last year and who came from media appearances, proposals from ADEA members, business organisations and other groups. Finally, the members of ADEA’s advisory board, constituted as a jury, chose the winner in each category before a notary, among the shortlists proposed by the Board of Directors.
This award recognises the scientific career of María Moros, who leads a research project based on nanoparticles for biomedical applications, called SIROCCO. This project is endowed with a Starting Grant of almost 2 million euros from the European Research Council. The main objective of the project is to develop tools based on magnetic nanoparticles to study the ability of cells to detect external mechanical stimuli and transform them into biochemical signals. A better understanding of these mechanisms and the possibility of manipulating them externally could be very useful in increasing the speed of tissue regeneration. In addition, María Moros has been selected in 2020 by an international committee to be part of the Young Academy of Spain.
The XI ADEA Executives Convention was held on 15 December 2020, in the Zaragoza Auditorium, under strict health security measures. The event was attended by the Deputy Mayoress of Zaragoza and Councillor for Culture, Sara Fernández, and the President of ADEA, Salvador Arenere.
