The sixth edition of “FEnanoMENOS” is once again a success
The Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA), a joint centre of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, in its work of dissemination and promotion of scientific culture in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, held the VI Nanoscience Fair for schoolchildren in Aragon on 3 June 2021.
The main objective was to promote science and innovation in young people from an early age, offering them an opportunity to develop a scientific project, positioning the student as a researcher and encouraging teamwork, cooperation and creativity.
This fair was the setting for the final of the FENANOMENOS competition in which a total of 252 secondary and special education students from Aragon took part, making an audiovisual presentation in which each of the 42 participating teams explained a potential application for nanoscience to help us in our future day-to-day lives.
There were a total of 15 finalist groups from the following schools in Aragon: CEE San Martín de Porres and San Antonio de ATADES, from Zaragoza; Colegio La Inmaculada (Alcañiz – Teruel); ; IES Clara Campoamor Rodríguez (Zaragoza); Colegio La Salle Montemolín (Zaragoza); IES Reyes Católicos (Ejea de los Caballeros – Zaragoza); IES Miguel de Molinos (Zaragoza); Colegio Británico de Aragón (Zaragoza); Colegio El Buen Pastor (Zaragoza); IES Miralbueno (Zaragoza); Colegio Montessori (Zaragoza); Colegio Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Zaragoza) and Colegio María Auxiliadora (Zaragoza).
In this edition, the final was once again telematic, adapting the presentation of the finalist groups by means of a video so that the jury could see the development of the projects and be able to evaluate them in this way. The winners were announced at a virtual fair in which the teams actively participated, accompanied by their classmates, the three members of the jury and in which were present Mr. Conrado Rillo (Director of INMA); Ms. Esther Borao (Director of the Technological Institute of Aragon ITAINNOVA), representing Ms. Maru Díaz (Regional Minister of Science and Technology of Aragon ITAINNOVA), Ms. Maru Díaz (Regional Minister of Science and Technology of Aragon ITAINNOVA) and Ms. Conrado Rillo (Director of INMA). Maru Díaz (Regional Minister of Science, University and Knowledge Society of the Government of Aragon), Ms. Mª Jesús Lázaro (Institutional Delegate of the CSIC in Aragon), Ms. Rosa María Bolea (Vice-Rector of Science Policy of the University of Zaragoza) and Mr. Ricardo Ibarra (Coordinator of the FEnanoMENOS Project). In addition to the live participants of this virtual fair, family and friends were able to watch the gala in streaming.
The level of the projects was very high and the jury awarded the first prize in the Secondary Education category to Colegio El Buen Pastor with its project “Nanobreath Pointer”, and in the Special Education category to Colegio San Martín de Porres and San Antonio de ATADES. In addition, the second prize in the Secondary Education Category went to Colegio María Auxiliadora with its project “Luz verde” (Green Light). In addition, two special mentions were awarded to the video with the most views from IES Miguel de Molinos with its project “NanoCO2” and to the winner of the FEnanoRANKING that had been developed during this sixth edition to the project group “Cardionanology” from Colegio la Salle Montemolín.
FENANOMENOS is a project organised by the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA), CSIC-UNIZAR, with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science and Innovation.
