On 16 May, nanoscience takes to the streets thanks to FEnanoMENOS, the nanoscience school fair organised by the Aragon Institute of Nanoscience and Materials Institute

The Nanoscience and Materials of Institute (INMA, CSIC-UNIZAR) will announce the names of the winning projects of the ninth edition of FEnanoMENOS, the school nanoscience fair that every year attracts a greater number of schools nationwide. On Thursday 16 May, nanoscience takes to the streets thanks to Fenanomenos, the only school nanoscience fair organised by INMA, which for several editions has been extended to all schools in Spain. From 10:00 am on 16 May, the Plaza de las Ingenierías (Calle María de Luna s/n) on the Río Ebro Campus of the University of Zaragoza will be the place where the finalist projects participating in the Fair can be visited. A morning in which the students of ESO and Special Education will present to the public the projects they have been working on during the school year and with which they have wanted to investigate and respond to a phenomenon of nanoscience with a real application in our daily lives.

The projects will compete for a prize worth €300 in school material in each category (ESO and Special Education) and a second prize worth €150 also in each category.

What phenomenon linked to nanoscience are you going to deal with? What advantages characterise the project presented? What applications does it have in our day-to-day lives? These are the three questions that have been answered in the best possible way by the finalist schools which, for the third year running, come from different provinces such as Cordoba, Valencia, Huesca, Teruel and Zaragoza.

The 9th Nanoscience Fair for schoolchildren in Aragon, in which the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities is also collaborating, will open at 10:00 on Thursday 16 May. Afterwards, at 13:00 hours, the final gala will be held in the Assembly Hall of the Betancourt Building of the University of Zaragoza on the same Ebro River Campus where the jury will announce the winning projects.

A day of nanoscience

As usual, the Fair has a programme of complementary activities to enjoy nanoscience from different perspectives. This year, it will be possible to visit the exhibition “NanoAsalto Evolution”, which will be located in the hall of the Betancourt building (and which was recently presented to the public at the Zaragoza School of Art). This project is an exploration of nanoscience from an artistic perspective and has also been developed at the INMA as part of its programme of informative innovation projects. In addition, nanotechnological gymkhanas and experimental demonstrations will be held with nanoscience as the main element.

V NANOTECHNOLOGY GALA OF ARAGON

As in previous years, this year the winners of FEnanoMENOS will also take part in the 5th Aragon Nanotechnology Gala organised by the SAMCA Nanotechnology Chair of the University of Zaragoza. The event will take place on the evening of 21 June at CaixaForum Zaragoza.
The purpose is to offer an opportunity to give visibility to the project, generate additional recognition and connect participants with society in a playful context and open to the general collaboration of all types of public. On the occasion of the celebration of the gala, a series of activities aimed at a family target have been designed and will be held prior to the gala.
