We finish the VII season of “De Copas con Ciencia” with chemistry, humour and artificial intelligence
The last session of the successful 7th edition of “De copas con ciencia” (Drinks with Science), an initiative that aims to satisfy the scientific curiosity of the population in a relaxed, entertaining and fun way, in leisure time, bringing it to the bars, will take place on Thursday 30 May. The activity is aimed at anyone with a scientific curiosity, without the need for specific training in science, and aims to be a meeting point for science lovers, in order to facilitate the creation of scientific debates between experts and the general public.
The activity is organised by the research institutes, ISQCH (Instituto de Síntesis Química y Catálisis Homogénea) and INMA (Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón), both joint centres of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, UNIZAR, and takes place on the last Thursday of each month. This edition has had topics as varied as polymers, circular economy, artificial intelligence, crystals, wine, eyes and vision, cosmetics and ageing, women and science, or even scientific Christmas carols, all enlivened with a fun tone and even with experiments and live music.

Back to the future: physics + artificial intelligence – Sergio Gutiérrez
We are spectators and at the same time participants in a revolution called Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are astonished by the birth of technologies based on AI, which until recently were only science fiction stories. Some predict the artificial apocalypse and others dream of the wonders that AI will bring. The talk, humbly, is about stories, AI and a little bit of physics.
Sergio Gutiérrez is a professor at the University of Zaragoza at the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon, INMA, (CSIC-UNIZAR). His speciality is computation in physics, particularly in the area of Nanophotonics. For the last few years he has been researching artificial intelligence, its development and use in physics problems. In addition, Sergio likes to tell stories about science and technology… when he is allowed to.
The existential dilemma in the life of a chemist – Ángel Madurga
What can a person who has loved experimenting since his earliest childhood do? During the talk we will be able to follow the adventures of our protagonist from the time he was able to develop a peculiar research process, while at the same time we will sharpen our five senses as we listen to the exploits of our hero.
Ángel Madurga is Technical Staff, Management, Administration and Services of the University of Zaragoza since 2003. He has been a specialist laboratory technician in the Dept. of Inorganic Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences since 2009. Graduate with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Zaragoza. Tutor in dissemination workshops in institutes and schools.
The session will be complemented with a face-to-face Hi Score Science competition aimed at the general public, which will reward the scientific knowledge acquired by those attending the session.
Hi Score Science is a game of questions and answers about science, in Spanish and English, with versions in French and Basque, for mobile devices, iOS and Android and for Linux, Windows and iOS, which is developed between the two research institutes, the ISQCH and INMA, which allows to include explanations of the scientific reality behind each of the answers.
