The multidisciplinary research “The conservation of the fossils of Ariño (Teruel)” receives a runner-up prize in the Research and Future Award category of the Tercer Milenio awards
The multidisciplinary research: “The conservation of the fossils of Ariño (Teruel)” developed by the Fundación Conjunto Paleontológico de Teruel-Dinópolis, the Escuela Superior de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales de Aragón and the Instituto de Nanociencia y Nanomateriales de Aragón (INMA), a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, has received the second prize in the category Research and Future Award in the IX Edition of the Tercer Milenio Awards organised by Heraldo.
The research “The conservation of the Ariño fossils (Teruel)” tries to obtain the mechanisms of alteration of the pyrite contained in the Ariño fossils. The Pyritedinosaur group, led by Nuria Miguel Sancho, studies these degradation processes, as well as possible preventive conservation strategies from chemistry, palaeontology and restoration.
The jury of this ninth edition was composed of Pilar Gayán, Director General of Science and Research of the Government of Aragon; Francisco Javier Rubio, Director of Araid; Luis Oro, researcher at the Institute of Instituto de Síntesis Química y Catálisis Homogénea, (CSIC-University of Zaragoza); Francisco Rojas, head of Technological Missions and Communication to Society at Itainnova; Sabina Scarpellini, researcher at the Energy Research Institute of the University of Zaragoza-Energaia; Antonio Novo, managing director of IDiA-Research, Development and Innovation in Aragon; and Pilar Perla, coordinator of Tercer Milenio.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held on 4 December with the sponsorship of Fersa, the Government of Aragon, Itainnova, Ariño Douglass, Sesé and Avanza.
