Participación del INMA en la Semana de la Ciencia y la Tecnología

INMA participation in the Week of Science and Technology CSIC:

  • The quantum computing revolution within everyone’s reach
  • Shaping light through light-matter interactions
  • Biomimetic adhesives: from the sea to humans
  • Magnetism and magnetic properties

Details of the workshops:

5 November: Jorge Pérez Bailón

The quantum computing revolution within everyone’s reach

This workshop will present fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics, such as the superposition of states and quantum entanglement, through a demonstrator. It will explain what a qubit is, the fundamental element of quantum computing, how it works and its advantages over a traditional bit.

6 November: Thomas van Zanten

Shaping light through light-matter interactions

Light is all around us. In summer we wake up to blue skies and enjoy colourful sunsets. This workshop will highlight some everyday examples of how light-matter interactions shape what we see and how it is used in the laboratory for research.

7 and 8 November: Alex Lancelot and Marina Ripalda

Biomimetic adhesives: from the sea to humans

In this workshop, we are going to talk about biomimicry. This part of science consists of observing and studying animals and plants in order to develop new products that are useful for humans. More specifically, we are going to see how we can replicate in a chemistry laboratory the adhesives used by mussels to stick to the seabed and obtain adhesives that stick underwater.

11 November: Alberto Anadón

Magnetism and magnetic properties

This interactive workshop will explain basic concepts of magnetism, how magnetic fields are generated and their impact on our daily lives, from fridge magnets to compasses and technological devices. We will explore how different materials respond to magnetism, experimenting with them to observe their properties in action.
