Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics: Elizabeth Castillo

Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics – “From lithium batteries to sodium and potassium batteries” – Elizabeth Castillo

On 21 April a new session of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics Seminars of the University of Zaragoza will be held by Elisabeth Castillo-Martínez, Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Complutense University of Madrid, who will give a talk entitled: “From lithium-ion batteries to sodium and potassium batteries”.

Summary of the talk: Lithium-ion batteries dominate the market of portable devices due to their high energy density and power. Understanding the mechanisms of lithium insertion at the structural level allows us to know how they operate and why they fail. In addition to the great interest that the topic continues to generate, the search for alternative electrochemical energy storage systems based on more sustainable chemistries such as sodium ion or potassium ion based batteries are more attractive for large-scale applications that are in high demand, but present new challenges. In this talk we will look at an overview of these energy storage systems.

The session will take place on Friday 21 April at 12.30 p.m. in the Sala de Grados of the Faculty of Science of the University of Zaragoza.

The series of Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics has the collaboration of the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón, INMA, a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza.
