INMA seminar: Martin Kreuzer, from Alba Synchrotron
Seminar spotlight: Multi-modal characterisation at the ALBA Synchrotron!
Title: Multi-modal Synchrotron SAXS/WAXS/FTIR probing of spatially resolved molecular orientation and loading heterogeneity in stretched PLA/PE blend films.
- Speaker: Dr Martin Kreuzer, ALBA Synchrotron scientist.
- Date: 20 March 2026.
- Time: 12:00.
- Venue: Assembly Hall, Geology Building, Faculty of Science.
Event summary: Dr Kreuzer will present an innovative multi-modal and multi-scale characterisation approach implemented at the ALBA Synchrotron to investigate advanced materials. The research specifically examines the structural evolution induced by deformation in polymer blend films, using poly(lactic acid)/polyethylene (PLA/PE) as a model system.
By combining synchrotron FTIR microspectroscopy with localised SAXS and WAXS measurements, the study correlates real-space damage features with molecular orientation and nanoscale morphology. This integrated approach provides hierarchical insight into load distribution and toughening mechanisms across multiple length scales.
Organisers: This event is promoted by the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA), the CSIC, the University of Zaragoza, and the Severo Ochoa Excellence Programme.
