Seminar of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics: Rafael García Molina

Seminar of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics: Physics in Everyday Life

On 9 June a new session of the Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Zaragoza will take place, in this case with a more informative orientation, by Rafael García Molina, from the University of Murcia, who will give a talk entitled: “Physics in everyday life”.

Summary of the talk: Everyday life offers numerous examples where physics is present; you just have to have your mind and senses ready to detect references to this discipline. It is enough to look around us to see how physics permeates our daily lives, in areas as diverse as sports, circus, amusement parks, magic shows, toys, technology… In this conference I will show how this science is everywhere and, moreover, it can be fun (two important aspects to make society aware of the importance of physics in everyday life).

Rafael García Molina holds a degree and PhD in Physics from the University of Valencia, is Professor of Applied Physics at the University of Murcia and a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Region of Murcia. He divides his professional dedication between research (theory and simulation on interaction of charged particles with condensed matter), teaching (Degree in Physics and Master’s Degree in Teaching) and dissemination (courses, workshops, radio, television…). He is director of Revista Española de Física and deputy editor of Revista Eureka on Physics Teaching and Dissemination. He was awarded in 2016 with the Physics Teaching and Dissemination Award (RSEF – BBVA Foundation) and in several editions of Science in Action and Science on Stage.

The session will take place on Friday 9 June at 12.30 pm in the Sala de Grados of the Faculty of Science, University of Zaragoza.

The series of Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics has the collaboration of the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INMA), a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza.
