Chateando con la Ciencia: Alonso Hernández Antón, from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich
“Quantum computing: a technological challenge to change tomorrow”
You are invited to attend a talk on quantum computing, which is shaping up to be the next great technological revolution, although it is not yet a reality with a direct impact on our lives.
Currently, research groups in academia and industry worldwide are trying to advance in two complementary directions: On the one hand, algorithms that are increasingly optimised and require fewer resources are being developed from theoretical physics and mathematics; while on the other, experimental physics and engineering are striving to build a functional and sufficiently powerful quantum computer.
In this video conference, we will discuss what quantum computing is, explore the areas where it can truly make a difference, and address how close we are to having commercial and functional quantum computers. The challenges faced by the different actors involved in this new technological race will also be analysed.
Speaker
The speaker is Alonso Hernández Antón, a doctoral researcher at the prestigious Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich), one of the most distinguished universities in Europe and the world. Alonso Hernández Antón is a Physics graduate from the University of Zaragoza and holds a master’s degree in quantum technologies.
Currently, his doctoral work focuses on quantum optics experiments using superconducting circuits. His research seeks application in communication protocols between different quantum processors. This technology is crucial as it aims to facilitate the connection of quantum computers to each other, forming local networks that could eventually constitute a new type of data centre.
