4th International Summer School on “Carbon and related nanomaterials: synthesis, characterization, properties and applications in energy” -julio 2024 – Jaca
From 15/07/2024 to 19/07/2024 the 4th International Summer School on “Carbon and related nanomaterials: synthesis, characterization, properties and applications in energy” will take place in Jaca.
A multidisciplinary course, lasting 25 hours, which offers an introduction to the field of carbon nanomaterials and other related systems of great current interest (e.g. 2D, perovskites, among others). This is a subject of great scientific and technological relevance, with a special focus on energy-related applications.
This course is aimed at students interested in nanoscience and nanotechnology, from physics, chemistry and engineering studies. It will provide students with a broad and comprehensive view of these nanomaterials, offering: i) a scientific basis for understanding the behaviour of the materials and the experimental and theoretical characterisation techniques, ii) the techniques and possibilities for applying these nanomaterials to the macroscopic world and iii) their importance for applications and products of technological interest, with an emphasis on applications in the field of energy. Therefore, the lectures will address, in a systematic way, the description of nanomaterials and the main methods of synthesis, their chemistry (including their functionalisation), the most important techniques for their characterisation, the macroscopic assembly techniques and finally the applications in the fields of electronics, sensors and catalysis.
The primary objectives are to show the importance of carbon nanomaterials and related systems for scientific and technological progress. It is shown that nanomaterials require an inter- and multidisciplinary effort with the need to interact with scientists and technologists specialised in different disciplines in order to take advantage of their potential. It shows that these nanomaterials are suitable objects for acquiring a broad scientific and technological knowledge base.
The course is coordinated by Raúl Arenal, Senior Researcher ARAID at the University of Zaragoza at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INMA), a joint institute of CSIC and the University of Zaragoza and at the Laboratorio de Microscopías Avanzadas (LMA), Unizar and Wolfgang Maser, Professor, Instituto Carboquímica (ICB-CSIC, Zaragoza).
