11F at INMA: science, equality and STEAM vocations
At the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA – CSIC/UNIZAR), we are firmly committed to promoting STEAM vocations and developing scientific careers under conditions of equality. Promoting role models, creating spaces for dialogue and bringing research closer to society is part of our responsibility as a public research centre.
To mark 11 February, International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11F), our researchers have once again taken part in an extensive programme of outreach, reflection and visibility activities:
- Talks at numerous schools and colleges, as well as at Club 33, helping to awaken scientific vocations and showcase the real work of women working in our laboratories and units.
- ‘Paseos con Ciencia’ #escaparates11F, an initiative organised by Made in Zaragoza, which has brought research closer to the urban environment.
- Round table ‘Women in Science’, held within the framework of the International Workshop on Dynamic Magnetisation Phenomena in Nanomaterials, which generated an interesting dialogue on leadership and research careers.
- Participation in the conference ‘STEAM Vocations: What Nobody Talks About’, organised by the CSIC Delegation in Aragon at the Casa de la Mujer, in collaboration with Edelvives, AMIT Aragon and Zaragoza City Council.
- Interactive workshops organised in collaboration with El Corte Inglés, bringing nanoscience to the general public in a participatory way.
- Initiative ‘I am a Scientist. I Live in Your Neighbourhood’, organised by the University of Zaragoza to raise the profile of local scientific figures.
- Hands-on workshop at a day centre for people with functional diversity, reaffirming that science must also be inclusive.
- Tribute exhibition at the Science Library to women from the Faculty of Sciences who combine research, teaching and academic responsibilities (coordination of bachelor’s and master’s degrees, departmental management or vice-deanery).
- These are just some of the activities in which we have participated. Thank you all for your involvement in ensuring that 11 February continues to be a key date for raising awareness and generating conversation.
- May our commitment to equality and the promotion of scientific talent be a 365-day-a-year endeavour.
