INMA Impulso: Daniel Ruiz Molina, from ICN2

Lecture: Integrating health, environment and energy through nanotechnology: A one health approach

Speaker: Prof. Daniel Ruiz Molina (ICN2 – CSIC)

Date: 15 April 2026

Time: 12:00

Venue: Assembly Hall (Salón de Actos), Faculty of Sciences (Building B, Mathematics), San Francisco Campus

Abstract: In this session, Prof. Daniel Ruiz-Molina will present the work of his research group, which pioneers the One Health paradigm. By uniting medicine, environmental science, and efficient energy systems through nanotechnology and bioinspired approaches, the talk will explore the interconnectedness of these fields.

Key topics to be addressed include:

  • The prediction of zoonotic diseases.
  • The analysis of pollution drivers.
  • The development of sustainable infrastructure, including technologies such as smart windows, to reduce ecological impact and address planetary health challenges.

About the speaker: Daniel Ruiz-Molina is a Full Professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Editor of the journal Biomimetics. Following a PhD at ICMAB-CSIC and a postdoc at UC San Diego, he has led the Nanostructured Functional Materials Group (NanosFun) at ICN2 since 2006. He has published over 200 articles and co-founded four startups dedicated to health and the environment.

Organised by: Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA), CSIC and the University of Zaragoza.
