The mysteries of the Universe investigated from Aragon: The documentary “Hunting the Invisible” premieres in Zaragoza and Huesca
Sintregua Comunicación and the Centro de Astropartículas y Física de Altas Energías-Universidad de Zaragoza are organising the premiere of the documentary “Cazando lo invisible” in which Carlos Pobes, CSIC researcher at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón, INMA, a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, participates.
We only know what 5% of the Universe is made of. The rest is dark matter and dark energy, which are totally unknown, but fundamental to our existence.
“Hunting the Invisible” travels to the most important international centres investigating these mysterious particles, two of them located in Aragon, to find out about their progress.
From the Amundsen-Scott Base in Antarctica to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland, via the Gran Sasso Laboratory in Italy, the University of Zaragoza, the Javalambre Astronomical Observatory and the Canfranc Underground Laboratory, this documentary offers a unique journey through the darkest side of the Cosmos.
Directed by Mirella R. Abrisqueta, creator of cultural and popular science content, she has written the script together with the CSIC scientist at INMA Carlos Pobes. Together they propose an adventure that focuses on the centres that research the dark Universe in Aragon, where world-leading experiments and work are being carried out. Igor García Irastorza, director of the CAPA-University of Zaragoza, has obtained a 13 million euro grant from the European Research Council to advance in the detection of dark matter, the Canfranc Underground Laboratory has several experiments underway developed by different countries that are trying to detect this dark matter and at the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory they are mapping the universe trying to locate dark energy.
Among the researchers taking part in the documentary are Igor García Irastorza, director of CAPA-University of Zaragoza and coordinator of the European DarkQuantum project, María Luisa Sarsa, professor of Molecular Atomic and Nuclear Physics at the University of Zaragoza and principal investigator of the ANAIS experiment, Carlos Pobes., senior scientist at CSIC-INMA and populariser, Carlos Peña Garay, director of the Canfranc Underground Laboratory and Javier Cenarro, director of the Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón (CEFCA).
Produced by the production company Sintregua Comunicación, it has the participation of Aragón TV, the support of the Government of Aragón and the Diputación Provincial de Zaragoza and the collaboration of the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología – Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities).
The documentary will be shown in Zaragoza and Huesca.
In Zaragoza, it will be shown on 25 January from 19:00 hours at the Gran Casa cinemas. At 20.30 hours after the screening of the documentary there will be a colloquium open to the participation of the public in which will participate Mirella R. Abrisqueta, director of the documentary, Carlos Pobes, CSIC researcher and co-writer of the project, Mª Luisa Sarsa, Professor of Physics and principal investigator of the ANAIS experiment on dark matter, Javier Cenarro, director of the Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón (CEFCA) and Igor García Irastorza, director of the Centro de Astropartículas y Física de Altas Energías-Universidad de Zaragoza (CAPA).
Admission to the premiere is free, but invitations must be requested through the following link: https://my.weezevent.com/estreno-cazando-lo-invisible
The documentary will be shown in Huesca on 25 January at 19:00 in the Teatro Olimpia. The documentary will be introduced by Jesús Pérez Navasa, director-manager of the Planetarium of Aragon, Ana Esteban, production director of “Cazando lo invisible”, Pilar Gayán Sanz, director general of Science and Research of the Government of Aragon and Carlos Peña Garay, director of the Canfranc Underground Laboratory.
