“Observation and recent evolution of Pyrenean glaciers”
Jesús Revuelto, from the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology
Abstract: Glaciers in mountain areas are excellent indicators of climatic evolution. However, there are different aspects of the processes that control their current evolution that are not understood in sufficient detail and therefore it is necessary to have accurate observations of these ice masses. In this talk, different techniques used in recent years to obtain information on the dynamics of Pyrenean glaciers will be explained, including, among others, LiDAR observations, photogrammetry, radar or mass balance beacons. It will also contextualise the recent evolution of glaciers with other indicators since their last maximum in the Little Ice Age and the future prospects that threaten the disappearance of this Pyrenean landscape heritage.
