Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics: Jacobo Aguirre

On 24 February a new session of the Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Zaragoza will be held by Jacobo Aguirre, researcher at the Centre for Astrobiology CSIC-INTA in Madrid, who will give a talk entitled: “From complexity to astrobiology: an unexpected journey”.

Summary of the talk: The path to the origin of life on Earth is dotted with transitions towards complexity, from astrochemistry to biomolecules and from there to living organisms. Unravelling the origin of these transitions is a challenge where the physics of complex systems has not been sufficiently exploited. This seminar will present a model based on complex interacting networks that, although lacking any relation to real chemistry, surprisingly (at least to us!) describes the emergence of molecular complexity in the interstellar medium, the environment where the most basic building blocks of life were created, suggesting that some rules leading to the emergence of complexity might be universal.

The session will take place on Friday 24th February at 12.30 pm in the Sala de Grados of the Faculty of Science of the University of Zaragoza.

The series of Seminars of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics has the collaboration of the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute, INMA, a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza.
