On Thursday 17 November we will be joined by Dr. José Luis Marín, from the Advanced Information Applications group, who will present the seminar: “Data Science: the “intelligence” behind digital transformation (a view of AI from the business point of view)”.
This seminar on Artificial Intelligence will take place on Thursday 17 November at 12:00 in person at the Sala de Grados of the Faculty of Science.
Summary of the seminar: In recent years, we have all heard about “Artificial Intelligence”. Advances in the area of Machine Learning (and in particular Deep Learning) have produced spectacular and unforeseen milestones: AlphaGo/Zero beat the world Go champion; image recognition systems already outperform humans in many tasks; general language models such as GPT-3 achieve translations of the highest quality…. But these headlines do not reveal the true degree of practical application of Machine Learning to the rest of the problems, of which there are many. This informative talk will first offer a high-level overview of the main machine learning algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement), and then will present some real examples of application in the field of business, taken from consulting / innovation projects in various sectors in which the speaker has participated. Finally, mention will be made of other lines of progress in Machine Learning which, although they do not receive as much attention in the press as Deep Learning, are of as great or greater practical importance than Deep Learning.
