In 2005 I earned a BSc degree in Physics by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). In 2006 I got a MSc in Material Science by the École Centrale de Paris (France). During that Masters degree I carried an internship at the Laboratoire des Solides Irradiés in École Polytechnique (France), where I was introduced to Computational Solid State Physics and first principles calculations.
I started my doctorate in 2006 at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) on the subject of ab initio simulations of electronic properties of metals presenting strong spin-orbit coupling. My work was supervised by Prof. Chulkov and Prof. Silkin, and I defended successfully my PhD thesis in 2012 on the University of the Basque Country.
From 2012 to 2015 I was a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics (Germany) where I studied the electronic and magnetic properties of magnetic materials, alloys and topological insulators. When I ended my position at the Max Planck I was granted the Associated Scientist status which was valid until the end of 2018.
In 2015 I started a new postdoc position at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (France) studying the electron-phonon interaction in metal dichalcogenides thin layers. It was at that time that both the Research on and Applications of Data Science were exploding, and I felt quickly attracted.
In 2017 I quit Academia to pursue a new path in Data Science (DS) / AI. In parallel to pursuing several training and University studies on DS, I currently sum 5+ years on different DS roles developed mostly in industry.
In my previous position as a Senior Researcher on Applied Data Science and ICT on a R&D Technology Center, I worked on managing and executing DS/AI projects for various industrial sectors and partners for about 15 months. Technology watch and mentoring of junior researchers/engineers were among my week-to-week duties.
Finally, by the end of 2024 I obtained a contract to work on the ‘Enhancing Experimental Data Analysis at INMA through Artificial Intelligence’ project joining the Theory, Modeling and Simulation (ATMOS) group at INMA.
