► Design, synthesis and functional characterization of peptide bioconjugates against tumor stem cells
New National Excellence Program of The Ministry of Human Capacities (ÚNKP-17-3), total amount: 5 600 €, date & place: 01.09.2017-31.01.2018, MTA-ELTE Research Group of Peptide Chemistry, Budapest, Hungary
In 2017 I was awarded with the highly competitive “ÚNKP” national fellowship for doctoral candidates. In the frame of this project, I proposed a new research line in order to target tumor cells and tumor stem cells in glioblastoma We established a simple, anchorage-independent 3D cell culture form, a spheroid model for assaying the penetration ability drug-conjugates using confocal microscopy (related publication: Z. Baranyai et al., J. Med. Chem., 2021, 64, 2982.).

► Targeted intracellular delivery of antitubercular agents by functionalized nanocapsules (TBNANO), Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship (Grant agreement ID: 842652), total amount: 172 932 €, date & place: 01.07.2019-30.06.2021, INMA – CSIC/UNIZAR, Zaragoza, Spain
In 2019, I was awarded with one of the most competitive fellowships for young researchers, the MSCA Individual Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship has an average success rate below 15%. The overall objective of the TBNANO project is to design and develop drug-loaded nanocapsules decorated with targeting molecules to enhance their cellular uptake by host cell macrophages in order to eliminate the intracellular bacteria (see details at Conference No. 9 entry). This multidisciplinary project took advantage of my theoretical and technical skills in peptide chemistry and in in vitro methods, and the expertise of the host group in the synthesis, biofunctionalization and characterization of nanoparticles, implementing a two-way transfer of knowledge. During the project I gained essential management skills, and this period outstandingly boosted my career not only with scientific knowledge but also with transversal skills and it has been an immense step towards independence. It also enabled me to build fruitful collaborations. During this period, I published 1 review and 1 editorial (first and corresponding author in both cases), and 3 articles are under preparation. I presented the work at 5 international conferences (4 oral, 5 posters).

► Antibacterial evaluation of functionalized nanoparticles (continuation of the TBNANO project), MSCA-IF – ERC extension 2020 by CSIC, total amount: 78 202 €, date & place: 01.07.2021-31.12.2022, INMA – CSIC/UNIZAR, Zaragoza, Spain
During my MSCA period, I was awarded with the MSCA-IF – ERC extension of CSIC’s 2020 call, which was created to support 15 MSCA researchers in the preparation of their ERC proposals to boost their independent research career. In the frame of this, I could continue the research on targeted drug delivery by nanoparticles, extended with more complex in vitro biological evaluation methods along with new collaborations. I submitted a proposal for the ERC-StG 2023 call (under evaluation).
