SUMMARY:5th International Summer School on «Carbon and related nanomaterials: synthesis, characterization, properties and applications in energy»
DESCRIPTION:Dates: July 13–17, 2026\nVenue: University Residence of Jaca.\nCoordination: Raúl Arenal, ARAID Senior Researcher at the University of Zaragoza, at the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA), CSIC-UZ, and at the Advanced Microscopy Laboratory (LMA), University of Zaragoza.\nWolfgang Maser, CSIC Research Scientist, Institute of Carbon Chemistry (ICB-CSIC, Zaragoza).\n\nObjectives\nThis multidisciplinary course offers an introduction to the field of carbon nanomaterials and other related systems of great current interest (e.g., 2D materials, perovskites, among others). It addresses a topic of high scientific and technological relevance, with a special focus on energy-related applications.\nThe course is aimed at students interested in nanoscience and nanotechnology, particularly those studying physics, chemistry, and engineering. It will provide students with a broad and comprehensive overview of these nanomaterials, offering: i) scientific foundations to understand material behavior and both experimental and theoretical characterization techniques, ii) techniques and approaches for applying these nanomaterials to the macroscopic world, and iii) their importance for applications and products of technological interest, with an emphasis on energy-related applications.\nThe classes will therefore systematically address the description of nanomaterials and the main synthesis methods, their chemistry (including functionalization), the most important characterization techniques, macroscopic assembly techniques, and finally, special attention will be given to applications in electronics, sensors, and catalysis.\nThe primary objectives are to highlight the importance of carbon nanomaterials and related systems for scientific and technological progress. The course demonstrates that nanomaterials require an inter- and multidisciplinary effort, involving interaction with scientists and technologists from different fields in order to fully exploit their potential. In this way, it becomes clear that these nanomaterials are ideal subjects for acquiring a broad scientific and technological knowledge base.\n\nMore information: https://cursosextraordinarios.unizar.es/curso/5th-ISS-carbon-and-related-nanomaterials.\n
