SUMMARY:FMC seminar: Ramón Paniagua Domínguez, from the Institute of the Structure of Matter, CSIC, Madrid
DESCRIPTION:Title: Optical Metasurfaces: A New Frontier in Light Manipulation\nSpeaker: Ramón Paniagua Domínguez (Institute of the Structure of Matter – CSIC, Madrid).\nEvent details:\n\nDate: 30 April 2026.\nTime: 12:30.\nLocation: Degrees Hall (Sala de Grados).\nOrganisers: Faculty of Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, in collaboration with INMA and the Department of Condensed Matter Physics.\n\nSeminar abstract: Optical metasurfaces are nanostructured surfaces that allow for the control of the fundamental properties of light with unprecedented precision. This seminar will explore how these systems can serve as an excellent platform for the miniaturisation of optical systems, as well as for enhancing and controlling light-matter interactions at the nanoscale. Furthermore, recent advances in the dynamic control of these systems’ responses will be presented, along with how they can be integrated with light-emitting materials to create new optoelectronic devices.\nAbout the speaker: Ramón Paniagua Domínguez is a Tenured Scientist at the CSIC’s Institute of the Structure of Matter. Before joining the IEM, he led the Advanced Optical Technologies Department at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore. He has dedicated the majority of his career to the research of nanophotonic systems and their applications in controlling the emission, propagation, and detection of light. In recognition of his work on optical metasurfaces, he was elected a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OPTICA) in 2025.\nThese seminars organised by the Department of Condensed Matter Physics will be treated as supplementary activities open to undergraduate and PhD students, and attendance will be recorded during the seminar itself.\n \nAnnouncing poster\n
