SUMMARY:Water safety symposium: Emerging contaminants and innovative approaches to water purification
DESCRIPTION:Water safety symposium in Benasque: Innovation against emerging contaminants\nFrom 6th to 8th May 2026, the Pedro Pascual Benasque Science Centre will host the international symposium titled «Water safety symposium: Emerging contaminants and innovative approaches to water purification». This event serves as a critical forum to address the global water crisis through materials science and advanced engineering.\nProminent INMA presence\nThe organisation of this meeting features a significant representation of researchers from the Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA). The organising committee is led by J. Gurauskis and S. G. Mitchell, both researchers at INMA (CSIC / UNIZAR), alongside F. Silva from I3A (UNIZAR). Their leadership underscores the institute’s fundamental role in seeking technological solutions for water analysis and purification.\nPrimary objectives and themes\nThe symposium aims to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers to accelerate the sustainable use of water. Technical sessions will focus on:\n\nAdvanced materials: The use of nanomaterials, multifunctional membranes, and high-performance composites for purification.\nEmerging contaminants: Analysis of microplastics, PFAS, and pharmaceutical residues.\nSmart technologies: Innovations in real-time monitoring via sensors and purification techniques based on artificial intelligence.\nSustainability: Low-energy desalination, bioremediation, and circular water systems.\n\nSpeakers and participation\nThe programme includes distinguished international experts from institutions such as the University of Brescia, UCLA, and the University of Zaragoza. Presentations will cover topics ranging from nanomaterial legislation to the toxicity mechanisms of PFAS.\nKey dates for participants:\n\nAbstract Submission: Until 20th March.\nRegistration Deadline: 13th April.\nFees: €450 for regular attendees and €300 for students.\n\nThe registration fee includes services such as free organised bus transportation from Barcelona (the university and the airport), technical assistance, and daily coffee breaks. Return buses to Barcelona will depart on 9 May.\n \nAnnouncing poster\n
