SUMMARY:Inaugural lecture of the NANOMAT Master’s Degree, 2025-2026 academic year
DESCRIPTION:Date: 4th Sep. 2025, 16:00\nVenue: Aula 4, Facultad de Ciencias (Física), Campus San Francisco\nInaugural lecture of the NANOMAT Master’s Degree, 2025-2026 academic year\nValeria Grazú, INMA researcher: «Advanced nanomaterials for next-generation biosensors and remote-controlled therapies»\nSummary:\nIn this talk, the role of advanced nanomaterials in the biomedical field will be explored, highlighting how their unique properties enable overcoming the limitations of conventional therapies and biosensing methodologies. It will be introduced how nanoscale dimensions, high surface-to-volume ratio, the possibility of chemical/biological functionalization, and their optical, electrical, or magnetic properties, tunable through parameters such as size, shape, composition, or crystalline structure, allow the development of innovative solutions in biosensors and advanced therapies.\nThe importance of nanomaterial biofunctionalization will also be addressed, as a key process that enables effective and safe interaction with biological systems, ensuring that they can perform the function for which they have been designed.\nThe talk will then focus on two highly relevant biomedical applications:\n1. Ultrasensitive nanobiosensors: how advanced nanomaterials enhance sensitivity and selectivity, while enabling the miniaturization required for the development of portable devices suitable for point-of-care use.\n2. Advanced nanomaterial-based therapies: their use in controlled drug delivery, as well as in strategies where the nanomaterial itself acts as a therapeutic agent with spatiotemporal control.\nFinally, the main challenges for the clinical translation of these advanced nanomaterials will be discussed. This will include aspects such as process scalability, quality control, reproducibility, and the need to comply with regulatory frameworks, emphasizing the importance of standardization and validation to ensure their successful implementation in the market.\n \nAnnouncing poster\n
